This off-the-beaten-path trek connects the Zanskar valley to the highlands of Changthang region, home to the nomadic people. During the first part of the trek, you will have the chance to discover the local life in remote Zanskari villages as well as visiting Phuktal, one of the most fascinating monasteries. You will then follow an isolated path leading to the Changthang region and you will cross numerous high passes before reaching the beautiful Tso Moriri lake.
Tsomoriri Lake

Itinerary
The flight from Delhi takes you 1 hour over the Greater Indian Himalayas and makes an exciting landing at one of the highest airports in the world. I will welcome you all personally at Leh airport & full day rest at hotel in Leh. 3500m
Today you will take a small hike up to Shanti Stupa
and make Yoga with me in front of beautiful Shanti
Stupa. In the afternoon visit. Thiksey and Shey monastery and back to Leh. 3500m
Today we will drive to Tungri, my village in Zanskar. The drive begins from your hotel in Leh, along the Sham Valley heading south, After Nyimo, we will turn left, leave the main highway, following the Zanskar River. entering the Zanskar Valley. Tungri is located at an altitude of 3,600 meters.
In the morning, you will visit our nunnery monastery located just above our village and join the nuns in their morning prayers. You can experience the spiritual practice, and traditions. sessions, after that we will take a short hike to the waterfall. In the evening, you will have dinner with my family...
After breakfast, we will drive to Phuktal (2 hr). Upon arrival, we will meet the horseman. Kitchen team, we will visit the famous Phuktal Monastery, After receiving blessings, we will begin our first day of trekking. The trek will take us from Phuktal (3,900 m) to Tangtak (3,990 m) and will take approximately four hours. Overnight camping at Tangtak (3,990 m).
Today we cross our first pass, Nyalokuntse (4,800 m). The ascent is gradual and not steep, allowing you to enjoy the walk and the surrounding landscapes. Along the way, you will discover a beautiful lake hidden in a quiet corner of the mountains. We will set up our camp at the base camp (4,200 m) of Gothurstar La Pass (5,100 m). Overnight camping, with full stars of the Milky Way shining brightly above. Elevation gain / loss: +810 m / −600 m
After breakfast, we will climb Gothurstar La Pass (5,100 m), crossing our first pass above 5,000 meters. From the top of the pass, we begin a gradual descent through wide mountain landscapes, eventually reaching Hormoche (3,900 m). Elevation gain / loss: +900 m / −1,200 m
Today’s walk is mostly flat as we follow the Tserap River. Along the way, we will cross a river and then pass through abandoned agricultural fields and an old, empty village—left behind as people moved to other places due to climate change. This quiet landscape tells a powerful story of change and resilience. We will camp at a site beside the river at an altitude of 4,000 meters. Elevation gain / loss: +73m / -0m
Today we walk from Satak to Tsokmitsik (4,080 m). mostly flat, making it a relaxed and enjoyable walk on high altitude Himalayan mountains. Surrounded by beautiful landscapes, real nature, where silence, wide valleys, and flowing rivers create a deep sense of peace. It is a perfect day to walk slowly, breathe deeply, and truly connect with the nature. Elevation gain / loss: +80 m / −0 m
Today we trek to Morang La Base Camp, located at an altitude of 4,400 m. The trail ascends gradually, allowing for a steady and comfortable hike. We will spend the night at this high-altitude campsite, which is the highest sleeping point of the trek. Elevation gain / loss: +320 m / −0 m
Today we will cross Morang La Pass (5,258 m), our 2nd
highest pass of the trek. From the pass, enjoy breathtaking views of the Rupshu Valley and the Zanskar Range stretching into the horizon. After taking in the scenery, we descend steeply to Takstago (4500 m) relax after a rewarding day of trekking. Elevation gain / loss: +858 m / −758 m
The day begins with a fairly steep climb of about one and a half hours, during which we cross several small river before reaching Bongla Pass (4,600 m). After a well-deserved rest at the pass, we begin a gentle descent toward our campsite. Along the way, we pass through lush alpine meadows and enjoy some of the most scenic landscapes of the trek. We set up our overnight camp at Zhabuk Yokma (4,335 m), surrounded by peaceful mountain views. Elevation gain / loss: +100 m / −265 m
Today we walk from Zabuk Yokma to Sangta, moving deeper into the valleys of Rupshu and Kharnak. Along the way, you will see herds of sheep and other local animals grazing in the high pastures. We will also pass through a few small, traditional villages, giving a glimpse of life in this remote region. Overnight camp at Sangta (4,620 m). Elevation gain / loss: +285 m / −0 m
Today we continue walking
toward Ponganagu, a region famous for its wildlife and remote mountain villages. This high-altitude area is home to many wild animals, including kiang (wild
asses), ibex, marmots, and a variety
of migratory birds. We will set up camp
at Pongchen Doo (4,530 m), surrounded by open valleys and stunning mountain

-today, you will climb two passes, Horlam Kongka La (4900m) followed by Kyamayuri La (5416m)

-ascend slowly towards the Kartse La and then walk down to the Gyamar valley
Time: 5-6 hrs
Distance: 16.3 km
Elevation gain / loss: +340m / -905m
-move up towards the Yalung Nyau La, the highest pass on the trek with a magnificent view of Tso Moriri lake
-walk down to Korzok village situated on the bank of Tso Moriri
Today you will drive back to Leh overnight stay in Hotel

Transfer to Leh airport and flight back home with lots of good memories from Zanskar

This Trek is a moderately trekking route. So any fit person can do this trek, even if you do not have any previous experience. You should be aware of what to expect and mentally prepare for it. Then, as long as you will to, you can.
The highest altitude reached is 5190m. .
The best time is from June to September, when the weather is pleasant October is also possible.
Carry warm clothing, trekking shoes, sunscreen, water bottle, first-aid kit, and altitude sickness medicine.
You’ll find Hotel, camping tents, and Homestay depending on the route. Some trails have basic guesthouses in villages.
